Dylan Cease, a pitcher with the Chicago White Sox, may be moving this offseason.
The White Sox front office has informed rival teams that they will consider trade proposals even if they aren’t shopping the 27-year-old (via Bob Nightengale of USA Today).
In 2023, Cease had a somewhat disappointing year, with an American League-high 4.58 ERA in 33 starts. Still, he finished second in the AL Cy Young voting in 2022 and had an ERA of 2.20.
Even though Cease had a poor year, his incredible 2022 campaign might persuade other teams that he will rebound in 2024. Additionally, he has demonstrated exceptional durability, pitching at least 165 innings in total and striking out at least 210 batters in each of the last three years.
Notably, Cease concluded the previous season with a bang. He had a 2.83 ERA in five starts in September and 38 strikeouts in 28.2 innings pitched.
During one of these appearances against the Boston Red Sox, Cease struck out a record-tying 11 batters without giving up any runs.
After the game, he talked about the cause of his inconsistent year.
According to Scott Merkin of MLB.com, he stated, “If I had to guess, there’s probably a high level of scouting and preparation for my starts.” “But you can only prepare so much if I go out and perform like this. The most important thing is to simply figure out how to be as consistent as I was today. It will go well if I incorporate that into every start.”
Before the MLB trade deadline on August 1, Cease’s name was well-known, even though he eventually decided to stay with the White Sox.
The former sixth-round pick may be suiting up for a different team in 2024, even though Chicago’s front management has previously turned down trade offers for him.
