Joe Willock of Newcastle United is expecting a big season after a poor 2023/24 season.
The 24-year-old was instrumental in helping Newcastle qualify for the Champions League, but was unable to participate last season due to an injury.
Joe Willock was unavailable for the majority of the season, missing 37 games in all. He only made 14 appearances in all competitions, and multiple ailments made it a miserable year for the Newcastle United midfielder.
It started with a hamstring issue, then progressed to an Achilles problem. The Achilles injury persisted until Eddie Howe ended Willock’s season.
Willock was forced to miss the final few weeks of the season, despite the fact that he was likely able to continue playing and power through. Instead, the club felt that he should rest and recuperate from his injuries in order to be fully ready for preseason.
That isn’t far away, and Willock is anticipated to be ready for the upcoming Premier League season.
And now, while he continues to work on his fitness away from the club’s training field, he has delivered a little message to Newcastle fans.
While the players have yet to report for preseason, Willock has been working hard to be ready for the 2024/25 season.
He’s been posting updates on his official Instagram account and has now sent a two-word message to his followers.
Alongside a selection of images of him training, he wrote: “Feeling ready.”
Willock appears to be prepared, which is quite encouraging given that the players will be returning for pre-season shortly.
Willock must complete a full summer of training after missing out the previous summer.
And, considering Newcastle’s midfield woes, Willock will be especially eager to demonstrate his fitness early on.
Elliot Anderson has left the club to join Nottingham Forest, while Lewis Miley is out injured. That means Newcastle are already two midfielders short moving into the summer, since Sandro Tonali is not eligible to play again until August 27.
As a result, Willock has a good chance of starting the next season in Eddie Howe’s starting XI, competing with Joelinton and Sean Longstaff for the spot alongside Bruno Guimaraes. One of them will miss out, and Willock will be eager to ensure that it is not him.
