Connor Barron has joined Rangers on a four-year contract, the club announced.
The former Aberdeen player moves to Govan after finishing his contract at Pittodrie. Scotland Barron, an under-21 international, had been linked with a move to Serie A, but the Gers beat six other clubs to sign the midfielder. Barron’s transfer fee has still to be set, but the Dons will be entitled to £500,000 in training compensation after rising through the Reds’ divisions to make the first team squad. However, Gers may take their chances with a transfer tribunal, which may enhance that figure.
Barron is Philippe Clement’s fourth summer signing, following the arrivals of Jefte, Oscar Cortes, and Clinton Nsiala. He could be joined by Bayern Munich winger Yusuf Kabadayi, who Rangers want to bring to Scotland as he negotiates his future with the Bavarian club. A £1.5 million deal for Moroccan striker Hamza Igamane is also believed to be close.
Barron becomes the latest Aberdeen player to join Rangers. Ryan Jack, who left Ibriox at the end of his contract, made the transfer in 2017, and wide man Scott Wright joined in 2021.
