Chris Sutton lambasted a Liverpool fan live on air for making the “ridiculous” notion that the Reds buy out Sean Dyche’s Everton contract.
The Toffees manager has received a lot of acclaim this season, and he sealed the Blues’ place in the Premier League next year with a workmanlike 1-0 victory over Brentford at Goodison Park on Saturday (27 April).
Dyche has now led the Toffees to a three-game Premier League winning streak, including a legendary Merseyside derby victory over Liverpool, and one supporter has suggested that the Everton manager succeed Jurgen Klopp.
Speaking on Radio Five Live on Saturday (28 April) the supporter said: “Sean Dyche, I’ve always had respect for him as a manager and head coach at every team he’s been with and he puts his heart into it.
“Liverpool are thinking about getting the Feyenoord manager to replace Klopp. I personally think they should try and do the sneaky and offer a lot of money to Everton to let us have Sean Dyche.”
Sutton quickly hit back saying: “Come on, let’s not pile on. That is ridiculous.”
Will Sean Dyche leave Everton as Liverpool suggestion made to Chris Sutton?
While Dyche and the Toffees have had a very successful week at Goodison Park, Liverpool are unlikely to have suddenly decided to make an offer to bring the Englishman to Merseyside.
Even if the Reds expressed interest, the Toffees would almost definitely reject it. From the outside, it does not appear to be a transition that either party would be very interested in.
Dyche deserves a lot of respect for keeping the Toffees up this season while dealing with a number of off-field difficulties, such as point deductions and ownership disputes, which have made things even more difficult for the Blues manager.
While other teams will have taken note, it is unlikely that the Blues manager will be in a hurry to leave Goodison Park. Hopefully, this is only the beginning of a fruitful term that will endure a long time.
