First of Two: Gators Women’s Lacrosse Wins the Big 12 Championship

The Florida Gators women’s lacrosse team claimed their first major title of the postseason, capturing the Big 12 Championship with a dominant performance that reasserted their status as one of the premier programs in collegiate lacrosse. With the regular season behind them and the national tournament looming, the Gators took care of business in emphatic fashion, defeating a gritty opponent in the Big 12 title game to secure the first of what they hope will be two major trophies this spring.

Florida entered the championship as the top seed, having steamrolled through conference play with a perfect record. That momentum carried into the tournament as they dispatched each opponent with precision and intensity, culminating in a decisive victory in the final. Led by head coach Amanda O’Leary, the Gators showcased a blend of experience, athleticism, and tactical intelligence that overwhelmed their opposition.

In the title game, Florida’s offense ignited early, building a lead that proved insurmountable. Senior attacker Emma LoPinto spearheaded the scoring effort, netting four goals and adding two assists, while midfielder Danielle Pavinelli added a hat trick of her own. The team’s depth was on full display, with contributions from across the roster. Goalie Sarah Reznick anchored the defense with 10 saves, frustrating the opposing attack and earning Tournament MVP honors.

“Our team came in focused and hungry,” said O’Leary after the win. “This championship means a lot, but we know we’re not finished yet. The girls have worked incredibly hard for this, and we’re proud of what we’ve accomplished. Now it’s time to prepare for the next step.”

Florida’s defense, long a hallmark of their success, was impenetrable throughout the game. The back line, led by Liz Harrison and Emily Diaz, clamped down on any threats, forcing turnovers and initiating fast-break opportunities. Their ability to transition from defense to offense with speed and purpose kept their opponents constantly on their heels.

With the Big 12 title secured, Florida now shifts its focus to the NCAA Tournament. As perennial contenders, the Gators are aiming to carry this momentum into national play, where they hope to earn their first-ever national championship. Their current form, combined with a battle-tested roster and strong leadership, makes them a formidable threat in the postseason bracket.

The Big 12 Championship marks the latest milestone in a program that has consistently set high standards. Since its inception, Florida lacrosse has been defined by ambition and excellence. With this title, the Gators have reinforced their dominance in the conference and positioned themselves as serious contenders on the national stage.

As the Gators celebrate this first victory, the message within the locker room is clear: the job isn’t done. One trophy is in hand, but the team remains laser-focused on capturing the second — the NCAA crown. If their Big 12 performance is any indication, Florida is peaking at the perfect time.

Sabbath formed the year I was born, first song I learned on guitar was Sweet L3af, saw Ozzy in ‘82 just after the plane crash, countless Ozfest’s, 1998 reunion show, etc etc….. I’ve seen a lot of fans talking about what band was uninvited, or who didn’t live up to the hype, or which band shouldn’t have been there… I watched the entire show and, for me, the lifetime soundtrack was as touching and meaningful as a McCartney concert…

This just popped up as a memory from my regular page. I believe part of his payment was for the cords to hook up all his pedals. Jake said he had those all hooked up.

Ever since I first heard him on the Bark At The Moon album, I’ve been a huge fan Of Jake E. Lee. I’ve seen him play with Ozzy twice, Badlands once and his solo band 3 or 4 times and have met him twice. He is one of the nicest, humblest people you can ever be lucky to meet.

Jake, it’s so nice to see you back on a big stage. I remember when I was 14 and I tried to play your solos on the guitar and I never succeeded. Don’t isolate yourself anymore, do it for your many fans around the world.
