Bayern Munich’s relieving and much-needed win over Arsenal FC came with a flurry of records for the Rekordmeister — which means we are back with another edition of Rekordmeister’s Records!
Believe it or not — Bayern Munich’s win against Arsenal was their first home win in a Champions League quarterfinal since 2016.
Today’s win was Bayern’s first win at Allianz Arena in a Champions League quarterfinal since beating Benfica 1-0 in 2016 (!)
2017: 1-2 vs Real Madrid
2018: 0-0 vs Sevilla
2019: Eliminated in the RO16
2020: Final 8 in Lisbon
2021: 2-3 vs PSG
2022: 1-1 vs Villarreal
The win also meant that it would be the first time since 2019/20 that Bayern have progressed to the final four in Europe, after three consecutive years of quarterfinal knockouts. It’s been a long time coming.
In Tuchel’s time at Bayern, he has certainly broken a few records — both positive and negative. The Arsenal game however, was a more positive one for the gaffer as he became the first German coach to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League with three different teams — PSG, Chelsea FC, and now Bayern Munich.
