Colts’ Anthony Richardson’s sideline exit could be a sign of deeper issues

Colts analysts question if one gesture unveiled a hidden challenge for the rookie QB

When Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardsonsignaled to the sideline and tapped his helmet to exit a crucial third-down play two weeks ago, it raised eyebrows across the league. Known for his athleticism and poise, the rookie’s request to step out sparked conversations about his readiness for the NFL’s relentless demands. But the decision to sideline him afterward wasn’t just about physical readiness; it signaled something more profound, according to one analyst.

Mike Florio of “Pro Football Talk” took to NBC on Wednesday to discuss what he believes is the underlying reasoning behind Richardson’s benching. Florio speculated that the Colts’ choice to bench Richardson was a calculated move aimed at addressing the quarterback’s maturity and overall mindset. “They’re not going to tell the media, ‘We needed to humble this guy,'” Florio commented“But I think that’s what this is about-helping him grow into the quarterback they need.”
